After many years in hibernation, AMD has now returned to the high-end CPU market with its Ryzen (consumer) and Epyc (datacenter) processors, which are now at the third generation and better than ever. In the past decade, Intel has been alone at the top, spelling poor competition, high prices and exaggerated development cycles.
The upcoming Ryzen processors, for example, will be based on a 7 nanometer production processes. Furthermore, they will be built on a new micro-architecture called Zen 2, while first and second-generation Ryzen were Zen and "Zen +, respectively. According to AMD, the upcoming Ryzen generation will also be the first PC platform to support PCIe 4.0. We are also assured that these processors will be fully compatible with the AM4 platform. That means if you already have a computer with a Ryzen processor, an upgrade doesn't have to be any more complicated than just replacing the processor. During an AMD-controlled demo on stage at the consumer electronics show, they set an unknown third-generation Ryzen processor with 8 cores and 16 process strings against an Intel Core i9-9900K, which also has 8 cores and 16 process strings. The program that was used was the well-known Cinebench R15, and in the demo, AMD's processor took a marginal win. This is also good news for Intel users, as the chip giant is now also in the process of launching new products., namely generation 9 of the Core series. This should be a list of all Intel's 9th generation processors: Core i9-9900K - 8K / 16T - 3.6 / 5.0GHz / UHD 630 Core i9-9900KF - 8K / 16T - 3.6 / 5.0GHz / no GPU Core i7-9700K - 8K / 8T - 3.6 / 4.9GHz - UHD 630 Core i7-9700KF - 8K / 8T - 3.6 / 4.9GHz - no GPU Core i5-9600K - 6K / 6T - 3.7 / 4.6GHz - UHD 630 Core i5-9600KF - 6K / 6T - 3.7 / 4.6GHz - no GPU Core i5-9400 - 6K / 6T - 2.9 / 4.1GHz - UHD 630 Core i5-9400F - 6K / 6T - 2.9 / 4.1GHz - no GPU Core i3-9350KF - 4K / 4T - 4.0 / 4.6GHz - no GPU Intel's future plans include the "Ice Lake" micro architecture, which has a significant role to play. Ice Lake is scheduled to take over from Coffee Lake generations and be produced at the 10 nanometer production processes. Intel aims to have Ice Lake ready by the end of 2019, at least for mobile systems. That is, Y and U-labeled processors. As usual, slightly better performance is promised with the new generation, but also better integrated graphics Thunderbolt 3 and integrated Wi-Fi 6. What's even more interesting is that the processors are more optimized for certain AI tasks through what is called the Vector Neural Network Instructions (VNNI) . Ice Lake should be able to run such instructions much faster. It may not be of much use right away, but with an increasing focus on AI and deep learning, it will be.
